The Coupang data breach wasn't just a hack, it exposed the weaknesses of South Korea's privacy system. The names, emails, phone numbers, and addresses of 33.7 million accounts were compromised, and while fines are capped at 3% of revenue, which could be as high as 1 trillion won, the actual level of enforcement remains unclear. The bigger problem is after the incident. Not enough has been done to force password changes, remind people to block overseas logins, and proactively protect against smishing and impersonation. The least we can do now is change our passwords immediately, turn on login reminders and foreign login blockers. At the same time, companies need to be transparent and invest in security, and governments need to restore trust through effective penalties and law changes. The 33.7 million breach is not the end, but rather a wake-up call to redesign our systems. #coupang #breach #security #privacy #internet safety
