The recent rise in mackerel prices has been palpable and rapid. The price of imported mackerel is now over $10,000 per hand, up more than 30% from a year ago. The biggest cause is the decline in the catch of medium and large mackerel. Rising ocean temperatures have prevented enough mackerel from growing off the coast of Korea and leaving, reducing supply. This, coupled with reduced imports of mackerel from Norway and a rising exchange rate, pushed prices even higher. With no replacement imports on the horizon, seafood prices, including mackerel, are likely to remain high for the foreseeable future. This is where managing food prices becomes increasingly important. mackerel #mackerel prices #mackerel price spike #seafood price rise #Norway #mackerel #import prices #exchange rate #2026seafood prices
